1-1-98 formation aka 1 Troop formation

Troop formation which is called “1-1-98” (also know as “1 Troop” formation):

  • 1 Zombie or Maximum Zombies (Depends how much you can lose of them);
  • 1 Troop from each Troop Type;
  • Maximum Troops which have the best attack (for long-range city level 30 it is level 10 Cobra Snipers);

In Player vs Player battles “pure” 1-1-98 formation only works for cities below Level 30. Once you have T10 Shredders, you should forget about it and never use again in the Player vs Player battles (don’t forget term “pure”). If you are Long-Range attack player, after reaching City Level 30, you should usually try to add at least couple thousands T10 Shredders and 2-3 attacking unit types.

You should ALWAYS use 1-1-98 formation to attack NPC troops like:

1.) Elite Zombie
2.) Doom’s Iron Grip

Because we want maximum damage output against a single target, like single monster or single enemy unit type.

  1. Please clarify this.
    Does it matter if you send 1 Zombie or Max Zombies?
    For each Troop type, do you really only send 1 each?
    For the Max Attack type troops – what if it’s only 100? Will the attack be as effective with a total Troop count of 110 as it would with a fully loaded cache of 70K troops?
    “And let you not loose your attack troops – add 100-1000 front line troops.” Do you mean “lose”? Doesn’t this completely contradict the principal of 1-1-98? What do you mean by Front Line Troops? Are these Shredders, or Tanks, or Gunners?

    • To answer your questions:

      1.) Does it matter if you send 1 zombie or max zombies? – Zombies are mid-range troops – they will fight like your other mid-range soldiers and prevent enemy troops from directly attacking your long-range troops (soldier special skills are not taken into account here, we are talking about direct hits). Zombies are the best troops in this game. If you send only 1 zombie into battle, he will be dead after just one hit. On the other hand, the more Zombies with your troops, the longer they will fight, the longer they will prevent the enemy from direct attacking your long-rage troops. This can be seen very well in the video replay of the attack report. We recommend that you send the maximum number of Zombies in any fight, but you have to evaluate how many zombies you have and how much you can lose in such a fight (in this case, we assume that cities of the same level are fighting). Zombies are the best soldiers to help in events like Medici’s Treasure, etc. There are players who do not use Zombies in their attacks.

      2.) For each Troop type, do you really only send 1 each? – in 1-1-98 formation – Yes. This is why it is called 1-1-98 (Total is 100). Because when the battle started, the game mechanics is that the enemy troops start attacking the soldiers who are closest to them. So your front-line (melee) is attacked first, then your mid-line (mid-range), and only then your long-range attack line, which are your primary attack troops (for c30 they are T10 Snipers). The enemy will lose attack time while attacking all types of soldiers because he will be forced to fire at all soldier types starting with the closest, even if there is only one soldier. And while the enemy soldiers are attacking your front-line and mid-line troops – your long-range troops are protected and doing their job – attack the enemy soldiers hard. In this case, we don’t take into account soldier special skills, such as T10 Pyromaster soldiers’ (Rocket Launchers) Overshoot skill – every 3 attacks will cast Overshoot which fires projectile directly at ranged attack soldiers ignoring all other defense soldiers in front of you.

      After Awakening Skills appeared on the Titans and Thor appeared on the Source Spirit Titan, there is an opinion that 1-1-98 is not a good formation. We will also try to make a review about this someday.

      (For normal battles, we recommend using the 1-1-97 formation, where you do not send Moto-Bikers (War Bikers), because the arrangement of soldiers is also important. Try sending the 1-1-98 formation with and without motorcycles, and look at the video replays of the fight to see how the soldiers are lined up, and which soldiers are or are not directly behind the Shredders in both cases, thus protected from direct attack or not. We will try to create a description of this formation as soon as possible.)

      Also “pure” 1-1-98 formation only works for cities below Level 30. Once you have T10 Shredders, you should forget about it and never use again in the Player vs Player battles (don’t forget thermin “pure”).

      3.) For the Max Attack type troops – what if it’s only 100? – The attack will not be effective. In the attack, you should try to send as many of your strongest soldiers as possible, which for a level 30 city will be T10 Snipers. In this case, you have to try to find a balance between how much to send defensive troops and how much to send offensive troops. c30 attacks usually try to add at least about 10% defensive troops and 2-3 attacking unit types. Also we are talking about general formation which is like a general example to be able to understand the idea itself. Each player has their own specific city with their own Titans, Warplanes, Officers and other buildings that can significantly change the format of your troops. There are players who have such strong Titans that they send almost only Shredders to attack, and while the opponent is fighting the Shredders, the Titans kill all his troops.

      4.) Do you mean “lose”? – Yes, typo. Front line soldiers are Melee soldiers – Shredders, Tanks, Axemans, Armored Soldiers.
